Mangalore, Jun 6: Even before the general public could digest the hike in petrol and diesel prices, the private bus owners as well as KSRTC are planning a increase in bus fares.  Some reliable sources said that fares of both government and private buses are expected to rise in the coming days, owing to rise in petrol and diesel prices.

The bus owners had earlier held talks with regard to increasing the bus fares, and will shortly hold another meeting to discuss the same.

Though there were plans from the last one year to hike government bus fares, the then Dharam Singh government had not approved of the same. Later, even the JDS-BJP government did not give its approval for the hike.  Now since the diesel price has been hiked, it has been decided to also increase the bus fares.

Some economists predict that though the rates of LPG and kerosene have not been hiked at the moment, they are likely to be hiked shortly.

Meanwhile, the labour associations are planning for a nation-wide stir in the second week of June protesting the hike in petrol and diesel prices..
