B'lore: Four former CMs among those who filed nominations

Bangalore, Mar 20: Union Railway Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister M Veerappa Moily, who is also a former chief minister of Karnataka, along with three other former chief ministers, were among the prominent candidates, who filed their nomination papers on Thursday.

The other former chief ministers, who filed their papers on the second day, were: N Dharam Singh, B S Yeddyurappa and D V Sadananda Gowda.
 
On day 2 of the filing of nominations for the 28 lok sabha seats from the State going to polls on April 17, as many as 28 candidates filed a total of 51 sets of nomination papers in 23 different constituencies.
 
With this, a total of 50 candidates filed 83 nominations in 23 Lok Sabha constituencies in two days.

Some of the candidates have filed more than two set of papers, just as a matter of precaution, to guard against any technical mistakes in any one of the nomination papers.

Dharam Singh (Congress) filed nomination paper for the Bidar constituency while Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Moily (Congress) filed his papers for the Chikballapur constituency.

BJP candidates Yeddyurappa and Sadananda Gowda filed their papers for the Shimoga and the Bangalore North constituencies, respectively.

Kharge of the Congress filed his papers to contest from the Gulbarga reserved constituency.

Other prominent candidates field their papers are: Anantha Kumar Hegde (Uttara Kannada), Nalin Kumar Kateel (Dakshina Kannada), Pratap Simha (Mysore) (all BJP), and Rizwan Arshad (Bangalore Central - Congress).

Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha, who spoke to reporters in the evening, said BJP’s 12 candidates, Congress  7, and JD(S)  1 have filed their papers.

The police have seized cash of Rs 75 lakh, 2,000 `T’ shirts, 63 saris and liquor worth Rs 60 lakh so far, he said.
