P Chidambaram Opts Out, son Karthi to Contest From Sivaganga

Chenna, Mar 21 (Indian Express) : As expected, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram — one of the most prominent faces of the UPA government — will not be contesting this Lok Sabha elections. In his place, the Congress gave his son, Karti P Chidambaram, a ticket to contest from Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu.

Reacting to the announcement, Karthi said he was “honoured that the Congress party bestowed the responsibility” on him. “It’s a huge challenge. I will work very hard. Congress in Sivaganga is organised and ready for the fight,” he added.

There was not much explanation as to why Chidambaram chose to bow out of the contest, except that he wanted GenNext to take over the baton. “My father has contested nine elections and thought it was time to give way. He is definitely not retiring from politics,” Karti said. According to sources, the FM would prefer to move to the Rajya Sabha.

The Congress party’s strategy has changed from the south to north.  While its Finance Minister, a quintessential Lok Sabha member, shied away from the battle of ballot, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, essentially a Rajya Sabha politician, decided to take the plunge. He will contest from Udhampur, J-K.

Another Congress senior, Mani Shankar Aiyar has been fielded from Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu. In all, names of 50 candidates were announced in the party’s fourth list for the Lok Sabha elections, late on Thursday evening, mostly dominated by the Tamil Nadu seats.

Chiddu almost lost the 2009 election, even with DMK support then. Manipulated the recounting and won by a slender margin. Case is still pending in the court.

India's per capita income is projected to soar by 10.4 per cent to Rs 74,920 in 2013-14 as the country becomes a $1.7 trillion economy.GDP average for the last 10 years 6.5 only next to china. Few industrlisats like ambani and adani greedy and not sharing their wealth along with some corrupt politician if not we would have seen UPA III with 300 plus seats..

Father given his constituency to his son for now and the great father will contest later when there will be a sub-election or will be appointed as Governor for any state. This is nothing but dirty politics.

Chidambaram has no base and is projected as a leader by Congress. He rode to success on the piggy-back of DMK. In the last elections. People have still not forgotten the drama which unfolded at the time of announcement of results. With Congress and DMK parting ways, he is in a hopeless position because he cant go to BJP alliance and he wont go to AIADMK. His son, Karthi is a new entrant and has no reputation to keep
