Mangalore: Robert Rosario was expelled, says Aam Aadmi Party

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Mar 22: Hours after Aam Aadmi Party's candidate M R Vasudeva filed his nomination on Saturday March 22 amid opposition from the party's past convener Robert Rosario, the party issued a media release stating that Robert Rosario was dismissed from the Aam Aadmi Party's core committee a few months ago for taking part in anti-party activities.

The media release states:

"Aam Aadmi Party Dakshina Kannada past convener Robert Rosario was dismissed from the Aam Aadmi Party's core committee a few months ago for taking part in anti-party activities. Robert Rosario had resigned earlier as a co-convenor and was demoted to an ordinary member by a resolution passed by the executive committee. However, he continues to project the impression that he is a spokesperson of the party.

"The party has been extremely tolerant of his anti-party behaviour in representing himself as the party spokesman despite being informed not to do so," said Rohan Shiri, secretary of the Party.

"Freedom of speech is an inherent right of every Indian citizen and Rosario can express his opinion as a Party member,” said Saad Khaja Mohammad, AAP's youth representative. "We have not come here to divide. We have come to stay united and Vasudeva is the icon for us and we stand united behind him."

"I was present during a meeting of the party wherein he (Robert Rosario) tendered his resignation. As a disgruntled person, he is playing dirty now due to interpersonal differences," said J Shriyan.

"The following is the text of a clarification that was provided by the party on February 18:

"Robert Rosario's resignation in the meeting dated November 22, 2013 was the culmination of a sequence of many events during which Rosario was taking unilateral decisions, not taking the committee into confidence. Fighting with the preparatory committee members had become the order of the day. The party's growth suffered and the meetings only ended with discussions and nothing more. On December 19 in a joint meeting of the executive committee and advisory committee chaired by senior advisory committee member Dr Satish Rao, the committee members ended up asking him to be removed. Rosario on his turn declared that he was ready to step down. The members then decided to handover the functional responsibility of party affairs to joint convenor Dharmendra.

"In the meeting of executive committee dated December 30, Dharmendra as convener and Rohan Shiri as secretary were nominated to own responsibility assigned to them to represent the district and expand the organisation.

"Even after resigning from the post, Robert Rosario attended the subsequent committee meeting (s) called by the new committee on January 3, 2014 in which, Rosario had not raised any objection on the new team, rather continued to fight with other members of the committee on trivial issues. In fact, Rosario refused to sign the attendance register stating that he ceased to be a member of the executive committee and hence would not sign.

"As Rosario was controlling the party email account, which he did not hand over even after stepping down - it prompted the executive committee to expel him from the committee for 3 months in its meeting dated January 9.

"A special note in the party's membership form states, ”If anyone is found indulging in activities against the objectives and against the party's mode of functioning, his/her membership shall stand cancelled."

"Rosario's behaviour today outside the election office to coincide with Vasudeva presenting his nomination papers, was not appreciated by all the other AAP members present. The AAP has expelled Robert from the party."

People, you don't know, what's going on inside the AAP party. As I am one of the members, I know what's going on inside. For works, volunteers, field works, they call all active members, but when ing candidate, they never told any single member of the party. The so-called secretary Rohan Siri decided and after sending the candidate name and after the interview, he revealed the matter to all of us. Vasudeva could be a good candidate, but his ion was not open, it was much like pre-planned. Rohan Siri must go out. Vasudeva should take action (how can he, if he is one of them?). God only can save the party. But, I condemn the way Robert Rosario moved to media and opposed the party. We are very confused, who is the real AAP worker here?

The two major parties have ruled the country for ages. They have fielded the same old candidates and people are well aware of their credentials and their work. It is time for change to give a better future for our children and grandchildren. It is time to end corruption at all levels. I am confident that the AAP will rise to power to bring this most wanted change.

Dear Declan, in the last 22 years since 1991, was there any significant 3rd party contesting in Mangalore/DK? How did Congress lose all the times to BJP? Because of their own divided house. Moily works against Poojary & vice versa, and there are many factions in the party who are working against JP. So it is safer for you,me and everyone to vote AAP's good candidate MRV and that will ensure that we will have a representative who will not go by the diktats and whips of the party to keep quiet in the Parliament but raise developmental issues for the region. If someone says JP and JPHegde of Udupi are good people, what is the use of good people in bad party? Did they stop the country being looted through such worse corruption scandals of UPA government? Manmohan singh was also a good person, well educated, we gave him 10 years. What he did? could he stop looting under his nose and now is completely coal-coloured?

    @Common Mangy.
Appreciate your comments. Admitted mistakes have been committed by the Congress. However, the big and only enemy for us is a Modi led BJP and we are looking at these elections from an all India perspective. We are not thinking just DK & Udupi. Electoral victories are about numbers which you are aware of. Are the AAP contesting from all the 542 odd constituencies in India ? I believe not. Does the AAP have winning candidates who can prevent the likelihood of the NDA/BJP from coming to power thereby preventing Modi occupying the PM's chair ? I'm not sure.
Personally, I admire persons like Arvind Kejriwal, Medha Patkar, Yogendra Yadav etc. and if I had the confidence that they could provide a real challenge to the BJP from the North to the South and from the West to the East of India I would vote for them. Even now we are not opposed to AAP and sincerely wish them well. It is only this lack of confidence in this new party and our firm determination to never see Modi on the PM's chair that has prompted this decision to support the Congress. AAP guarantee kaise de sakte hai ki ve Modi ko kisi bhi tarah PM nahi banne denge ?
If Kejriwal beats Modi in Varanasi we will start to believe. Till then we wish to play it safe with the Congress.
If the Congress made mistakes in the past it does not mean they will do so in the future if there is a change of leaders at all levels to replace the bad with good ones for eg. Mr. Nilekani. Maybe you don't really understand the depth to which how important communal peace and a society free from religious discrimination means to us. Mind you there can be no real development without peace in society. I have emphasized this over and over in my comments since the past few months. We do not endorse corruption by anybody. We do not trust a Modi led BJP. Our support for the AAP is mainly on the AAP being secular, anti-Modi and non-corrupt in their stance.

This is the new twist to yesterday’s Kaahani. Till yesterday, he was blaming Vasudeva for being communal activists. But now Rosario himself found in the wrong side of the AAP portfolio. He was expelled from AAP for anti-party activities means might have associated with other Party. For sure he will never support BJP in his life time means thing is crystal clear that he is from CONGiss only. Wah Rosario Mamu Wah… if RSS and BJP are supporting Moral Police then CONGiss is other face of Communal Police too

Joseph we are with you. We will vote for the Congress as dividing the secular votes by voting for AAP will definitely help the BJP.
For example, if Kejriwal was contesting from the place we are voting I would have voted for him, but AAP is still a new party and many crooks (with bad intentions) too have infiltrated the party because it is very difficult to screen 100% each and every candidate. Many of the AAP candidates are unknown and chances of winning in the South are slim.
So, though personally I do not oppose the AAP I will vote the Congress only for their ideology. The corruption in the Congress was because of corrupt individuals and not the because the Congress is bad in its ideology. Once these individuals are denied tickets or thrown out like Kalmadi etc. things will look up for the Congress again.
If Nandan Nilekani an intellectual and an honest man with a clean reputation is with the Congress I too am with the Congress.

However, as Valerian says only if AAP provides a reputed, clean and strong candidate capable of winning then support AAP otherwise the secular minded voter must stay with the Congress.

AAP Party and its ideas, strong team spirit to carry on its mission for the benefit of the whole nation is more important.
If any individual acts in a way detrimental to the overall interest of the institution, instead of allowing loss to whole institution and its image, party will be compelled to take punitive action. Persons should either reconcile or part ways.
