Kehl extends contract at Borussia Dortmund

Berlin, March 24 (IANS): Sebastian Kehl has signed a new deal to stay with German Bundesliga side Dortmund until June 2015, the defensive midfielder announced via the club's website.

After his completion of the current contract, Kehl will retire from professional soccer following 14 years at Dortmund, reports Xinhua.

"Our wonderful team, the fans and the city of Dortmund are my home for many years. That's why I decided to continue at this side. However, I will end my career in 2015, and I hope to experience unforgettable moments and great successes with the team until then. I am looking forward to my last year in the Bundesliga," Kehl said on the club's website.

Kehl joined Dortmund in 2002 from Freiburg to lift the Bundesliga title in 2002, 2011 and the German double in 2012.

As Dortmund's current team captain, Kehl scored 25 scores in 289 appearances. Moreover he played for the German national soccer team in 31 matches with three goals. He was part of the World Cup squad in 2002 and 2006.

Borussia Dortmund sit currently on second place of the Bundesliga standing, 23 point adrift of runaway leaders Bayern Munich.
