Mangalore: Teenage lovers jump into sea, girl survives, boy missing

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 25: A teenager couple tried to commit suicide in the early hours of Monday March 24 by jumping into the break water at Panambur here. While the girl returned home unharmed, the boy went missing, it is gathered.

Puneeth Kumar (17) from Kulai near here is a student of first PU class of a college in the city. He had fallen in love with a girl student of his class, it is said. Reportedly, he was worried over the fact that he had not done well in one of the subjects in his final examination. It is learnt that Puneeth, who had left home after lunch on Sunday at around 1 pm, has not returned home.

The couple then decided to commit suicide. At around 12.30 am on Monday, they reached the break water at Panambur and jumped into water.  The girl, who returned home safely early morning on Monday, told the police that she returned as she found that she had been alive even after spending two hours in the water.

Upendra Salian, father of Puneeth, has filed a missing complaint in Suratkal station, saying that Puneeth, who is 163 cm tall with wheatish complexion and lean build, has gone missing. The complaint also mentions about the boy’s ongoing love affair with a girl from Koorikatta, Bykampady.

The policemen, on the basis of the girl’s statement, have launched a search for Puneeth with the help of Panambur police, all along the coast.

another fishy incident. what a story. both jumped in to water, she coms back after 2 hours but boy goes off. It's not a swimming pool yaar. What non sense. In between markes scored coming in to picure. What's happening yaar. Police , why don't you crack such stories and bring out the truth. It should not be such a delay in finding all these truths. Take the girl in to custody and there you are, everything will be portrayed.

    Hi Juliet
Nothing to do with the present generation or past generation. We comment as present generation as you/me have crossed one generation. Even when I was a teenager/ young lad, many similar type of suicide cases happened but now the media is highligting it.

The difference between our time when we were young and present generation is, we used to have inter personal relationship with our neighbours, friends, community people, grew with chall/small house where we used to communicate with our neighbours without any problme, where as the present generation communicate with laptops, mobile, friends who are very impersonal and they do have luxury but no content of mind, heart.

Parents, community leaders should teach the children how to face failures, dejections in life and for that the parents, community leaders should be matured enough to handle situations.
