Udupi, Jun 9: Philiph Mendonca (35), a resident of Santurkopla near Shirva here was on Thursday June 8 afternoon arrested by Suratkal police inspector T Jagannath while trying to sell the seized granite near Padubidri.

The granite was seized by officials of department of mines and geology sometime ago from a mine run by the arrested at Manchakal near Shirva.  The officials had raided Philiph's mine under the pretext that it was run illegally and had filed a case in this regard.  A case has come for hearing in the district court in this regard.

In the meantime, the accused secured a fake permit and was trying to sell granite worth Rs 3 lac illegally.  However, he was caught by the police.  He has now been produced before the court.

A complaint has been filed in the Suratkal police station in this regard.
