Rahul Gandhi in Mangalore on April 4, Narendra Modi to visit Udupi in 2nd week

Mangalore/Udupi, Mar 28: Temperature in the coastal region is about to rise, and we are not talking of the weather alone. The battle for the Lok Sabha elections is about get hotter here, with two political stalwarts, rivals in fact, scheduled to address public rallies in Mangalore and Udupi.

While AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi will visit Mangalore on April 4, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will visit Udupi in the second week of April.

Addressing a press meet on Friday March 28, district incharge minister Ramanath Rai said that more details about Rahul Gandhi's visit will be disclosed in the coming days. Congress Lok Sabha candidate Janardhan Poojary along with several ministers, MLAs and state-level leaders are expected to participate.

Meanwhile, enthusiasm is at an all time high in the BJP camp in Udupi and hectic preparations are on to welcome Modi, for a second time in the coastal region after his visit to Mangalore in February this year. Though the date has not been announced yet, he is expected to visit sometime in the second week of April.

Modi will address a 'Vijay Bharath' rally at MGM College grounds in Udupi.

BJP leaders like B S Yeddiyurappa, Jagadish Shettar, D V Sadananda Gowda, Ananth Kumar, Shobha Karandlaje and many others along with local leaders will be participating in the rally.

BJP district president Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde said that around one lac people are expected to attend the rally.

Internet pracharaks and Sangh supporters always challenge people to visit Gujarath and see the development there. I had the opportunity to visit Ahmedabad, two weeks back and I was completely disappointed with the hype created.
I found the Ahmadabad airport as very shabby and cleanliness is not maintained. Having seen the new international airport in Mumbai, I felt as if I am in other underdeveloped India. Even our Mangalore airport is better. Then I found roads are good, but not great. It is similar to roads in Mumbai or elsewhere. Then we went to one of the biggest municipality hospitals, but to my horror, I found very unhygienic conditions with patients all over the floor. We met one of the doctors (who happen to be my son’s friend) and he told us that there is no coordination between departments like Pathology and Doctor himself has to follow up to get the reports for patients. A system within the hospital is not organised at all.
Is this the development? Having few good roads is development? Why the hospital is not modernised by the Chief Minister who is ruling the state for more than 12 years? From what I have seen I can say that the Prime Minister nominee is not bothered about poor at all. Do we need such a person as our PM who boasts on the fake development model?

Last time NAMO visited Mangalore , he was harping about banks and how gujjus filled it with money , he went to far east talks about how his relatives r from this area. Carefully crafted speeches !. May b this time he will talk about UDUPI hotels and how gujjus eat dosas and become fat or he he relinquishes on udupi sweets. OR he may also talk about how his great great grandpa visited this place and made it proud. I think speech is ready with venomous attack on certain people.

Well , good for him, but v certainly need.a gujju to come and tell what progress means ? if any of our leaders go to gujarat , vl they get the same treatment? . The growth of gujarath is urban based but the nexus between paid media , chronic capitalism and infested leader ready with his suit as a future PM is certainly not good for democratic india.

If you read my comment, we have just given the reality picture what we saw during our visit to Gujarath, it is far better state now than what it was before, infrastructure gives jobs to the poor as laborers, it benefits both rich and poor,industries also provides jobs to the poor, poverty and corruption is there in that states, but not as bad as it was before, Govt Hospitals have improved a lot, much better than other states, but still needs lot of improvement, corruption is rooted in our Indian society, it is difficult for any administrator to abolish, (it has got more to do with public who are prepared to bribe to get their work done). But it is far better than our own state. Yes school conditions have not improved, there is 1 teacher for 100 kids, no books and proper bench, conditions have slightly improved but needs a work.
But poor people have come up, their standard of living has improved. We don't agree with your farmers death in Gujarath, it is mostly across the border in Maharastra, because Mr. Modi has improved water problem by bore well and water reservoirs & other facilities. So agriculture sector has developed and improved. Farmers are doing OK.
But Gujarth has improved a lot for poor, by at least 20% than what it was in late 80's, that is for sure. But it needs to improve a lot. We spent about 3 months in Gujarth to see the condition for ourselves, to write thesis about Development and lack development in Gujarth, it is not highly developed state like Mr. Modi talks, but in saying that he has done a lot of work, that is the only reason his govt is in power for 3 terms. People have appreciated. No matter what people say Mr. Modi is the best administrator who has ruled Gujarat till now, his only problem is his 2002 Gujarath episode is haunting him till now. He should come out and apologizes to all the families of victims who lost their life's, say sorry. That my lighten the hearts of people. And heal the wounds.

We don't agree with your comment, we are not Mr. Modi supporters nor accept or follow BJP ideology. One thing is on record is that Supreme court has given clean chit to Mr. Modi, and that chapter is closed, although we strongly feel Mr. Modi should have come openly and apologized to all the families of victims who lost their lives, say how sorry he was for all the incident that took place in yr 2002 in Gujarth.

There is no doubt Mr. Modi is a good administrator, intelligent, has vibrant speech & communication & leadership skills (although he speaks only in Hindi & Gujarathi). His English is not so good (we call it Adige mane English). But that does not matter as Hindi is our national language, as far as Gujarth is concern- he has done a great job in developing that state from were it was, if you visit Surat, Baroda, Jaam Nagar etc, you can see many large and small scale Industries, which has given employment for many Gujarathi people as well as people from other states, off course there is still corruption, poverty and slums, but have decreased a lot, roads have improved, people have better standard of living, this is what we saw with our own eyes, foreign investment has been pouring in from NRI Gujarathis. There has not been any communal riots till now. This shows how efficient the person is as an Administrator. But we only have a problem about his Hindathva agenda.
There is old a English saying goes "Love him or hate him, you just can't ignore the guy, he has something in him" this applies to Mr. Modi, which makes him above the rest.
One thing for sure he will definitely become PM of India, if his party alone can get 220 seats? and there is every possibility that it can happen. We just attended a huge Indian gathering in Sydney and this was clear cut message we heard from almost 95% of Indians. Along with chant of Modi Modi
Somebody asked us "Are you Modi(fied)?"- we said no, but we are terrified.

Dear Mr. Vittal Poojary,

I request you to visit any one of the government run hospitals in Gujarath and I am sure you will not advise anybody to go to Gujarath. Condition of poor patients is pathetic and our Wenlok hospital is far better. Most of the State run transport buses I have seen are in very bad condition and there are no proper footpaths in many areas.

Having a few good roads and some industries is not development. Development should benefit the common man and this is completely missing. I am totally disappointed and convinced that the development story of Gujarath is completely fake.
