Puttur, Mar 29: The world Down syndrome day was celebrated at Puttur recently.
The United Nations has declared March 21 as World Down Syndrome Day. A program was arranged at Nataraja Vedike of Sri Mahalingeshwara temple in Puttur (DK Dist) Karntaka state, India, under the leadership of Karnataka State Awardee 2013,Limca record, Down Syndrome Puttur Suresh Nayak along with 9 NGO organizations such as Rotary, JCI etc . A total of 24 Down syndrome participants took part; and the celebration hall was filled with well-wishers.
As the result of this event; all organizers felt that a special school must be opened in this town and all have unanimously seconded the opinion. Dr Ganesh Prasad Mudraje, president of Rotary International Puttur and convener of this event announced that with the help of local NGO’s amd an education institution they will soon open a special school for Down syndrome kids.
Muliya Krishna Narayana, president of JCI, Puttur and Managing Director of Shyam Jewels Pvt Ltd a leading Gold & Bullion merchant of Karnataka, said that their company will contribute to open special school in Puttur. Rama Prabhakar president of Inner Wheel club Puttur, heartily felt that a special school should be opened and they will join for the same.
Each of the dignitaries, NGO’s and public took active participation in the event. For the entire day member of the NGO’s escorted by a Down syndrome child enjoyed the day together. They realised the happiness of living with a Down syndrome kid and at the same time they also realized the responsibilities and hurdle of their parents.
Down Syndrome affected Puttur Suresh Nayak , Prabhath Sharma, Charanraj were the chief guests of this celebration and Shashidhar B.E.O of Block Resources Office, Prof B V Arthikaje, Krishna Nayanaya Muliya, president of JCI and Razak president of Lions club,Puttur assisted the special kids on the Dias.
A special government thanking prayer song was sang by Roopasri Nayak, in this song the benefits given by Govt to differently abled have been briefed and earnestly requested the public to give an opportunity and identify the hidden talents and bring the differently abled to the main stream of the society.
The event has been inaugurated by Down Syndrome Puttur Suresh nayak through Magic .He converted the lamp into an umbrella and given a message to be the shadow of especially abled.
Under the guidance of Puttur Suresh Nayak, children were taught a few magic tricks.
In common stage functions all dignitaries sit in the front row ,but in this event two special rows were reserved for the guests, but the front row was arranged for Down Syndrome affected guests.
Poet and Prof Arthikaje appriciated the innocence of the children and affected individuals.
8BEO Shashidhar said "Down syndrome children should not treated as curse. They should be treated equally. Even if it is difficult to respond for problems of Down syndrome children we should make compromise with them."
A talk on Down syndrome briefed in convincing way to parents by Dr Ganesh Prasad Mudraje of Prajna counseling centre. He said that Down syndrome is not a disease, it is a species. He gave information on symptoms of Down syndrome and the responsibilities to be taken regarding such persons. Very informative Talk and highly appreciated by parents and audience.
All the dignitaries, organizers and coordinators have been honored by giving a special letter and a gratitude certificate. This certificate was signed by Puttur Suresh Nayak in Kannada.
Special games, talent showand a rally was organised. Free life membership to Dist Disabled self help group was given by the event organizers.
1Ullas showed his special memory skills by answering correctly 100 Questions asked on Mahabharata & Ramayana epic. Prabhath delivered a drums performance.
Charan Raj sang a Yakshagan song. Neel Pais performed a dance. Puttur Suresh nayak performed a Magic show. Preeti performed some dance steps. These special talents have been highly appreciated by audience.
In the History of this town for the first time 19 NGO’s joined hands for a single event for the social cause. This credit goes to Down Syndrome Puttur Suresh Nayak.
The stage was set up by Vignesh Vishwakarma of Bhavana kala arts, Shashikala of BRC. Vathsala Nayak conducted special games. Shiva Prakash and Shashikala managed registration; Razak led the rally, Chidananda Kamath Kasaragod hosted the event. Krishna Narayana Muliya gave the vote of thanks.
The organizers requested all the parents to indentify and promote rare talents in such children in their own way.
