Lazio target Rever to remain in Brazil

Sao Paulo, March 30 (IANS): Atletico Mineiro defender Rever's agent has played down reports that the Brazil international is headed to Italian football club Lazio.

Agent Fabio Mello said the 29-year-old is focused on helping Brazilian club Altetico Mineiro to a second straight Copa Libertadores title, reports Xinhua.

"Lazio have shown interest in Rever since he played at Gremio. At that time we received an official offer but the deal didn't go head. We are getting close to the period where rumours are made and this type of news is normal," Mello said Saturday.

Rever has already had one unsuccessful spell in Europe when he joined Wolfsburg in 2010.

He has since been key to Atletico's resurgence in Brazil's top-flight and was a major reason for the team's Copa Libertadores triumph last year. The centre-back has been rewarded with 10 Brazil caps since his debut against the United States in 2010.

"Today Rever doesn't have any interest in going to Europe because he is focused on the Copa Libertadores. He wants to be champion for the second consecutive year and dreams about playing for Brazil at the World Cup. If there is a proposal from an interesting country, there could be a possibility of leaving but till now that hasn't happened," Mello said.
