Puttur, Jun 11: Tension prevailed in Puttur town as cattle meat was discovered in an auto rickshaw on Saturday, Jun 10.

In a road mishap, an auto rickshaw rammed against a jeep at Kallega in the outskirts of the Puttur town. The traveler in the vehicle tried to flee from the place with two bags immediately after the accident.

The people who gathered near the accident spot caught him and recovered the meat.

The mob turned violent and beat up the auto rickshaw driver Abdul Rahim. He has been admitted to a hospital.

Khalandar Shaffi who was caught carrying the meat has been taken into custody.

Communal colours immediately flashed around the incident. While on one hand the members of one community staged a protest in front of the police station demanding arrest of those who beat up the auto rickshaw driver, members of another community staged a dharna at the same place demanding the arrest of all those involved in the illegal sale of cattle meat.
