Udupi, Jun 11: A Suvarna Samskrithika Samuchaya (Suvarna cultural complex) at Karanth Kala Grama will come up soon in Alevoor, near Manipal. The government has earmarked Rs 50 lac each to Udupi and Madikeri, which will come under Karnataka Samskrithika Smarkashana department (cultural protection), announced Dy chief minister B S Yediyurapppa, while addressing a conference at DC’s office on Saturday, before leaving for the Malpe fisheries harbour.

 

Yediyurappa said BJP-JD(S) coalition government has formulated welfare measures- Bhaghya lakshmi project for girls, loans for fishermen, weavers and farmers with 4 per cent interest for the sake of the poor. He said he has initiated the fund release in every three months and regular employee evaluation for execution of projects.

Speaking about the recent Malpe boat tragedy, he said, the government will release fund for purchasing life-saving equipment at the harbour. State government has increased the diesel subsidy from Rs 55,000 to 70,000 kms and also enhanced kerosene supply to country boats from Rs 200 to 400l, besides sanctioning of Rs 10,000 low-cost houses for fishermen under Fisheries Housing Project.

 

Yediyurappa also announced the sanction of Rs 1,000 for the burial expenses. The state government has earmarked Rs 5 crore for this programme.

The deputy chief minister assured that under the leadership of chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, a committee has been set up to study the ecological disasters and health hazards caused by the Nagarjuna Power project. But, he was not prepared to give more details of the committee. Manorama Madhwaraj, Udupi MP, who is the vanguard of the protest movement, against setting up of Nagarjuna Power Project was also present.

Yediyurappa also handed over compensation to those whose houses were damaged in the recent rain in Ullal.
