Mangalore: Festive gift: Kapikad - Kodialbail come together on Ugadi

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (EP)

Mangalore, Apr 1: A new era seems to have begun in Tulu drama and cinema. Close friends once upon a time, they had parted ways due to some misunderstanding and formed their own troupes that changed the very dimensions of Tulu theatre and cinema.

But in what may be termed as a sweet news on Ugadi, Devadas Kapikad and Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, two stalwarts of Tulu cinema and theatre, not only exchanged wishes but even spent some time together as old friends, thus raising hopes and excitement among Tulu fans who yearn to seem them together again.

Vijay Kumar Kodialbail who breathed new life into Tulu cinema and theatre with works like 'Oriyardori Asal' and 'Madime', and Devadas Kapikad, the Rajyotsava award winner who has become a household name with 'Telikeda Bolli' and 'Venkata in Sankata', set aside their differences and shared the sweetness of Ugadi festival on Monday March 31 in the presence of hundreds of artistes.

It was Prakash Pandeshwar of Jayakirana Films who was instrumental in bringing the two stalwarts together again.

Vijay Kumar Kodialbail came during the shooting of 'Chali Polilu', a comedy that is being produced by Prakash Pandeshwar under the banner of Jayakirana Films, and conveyed his best wishes to Devadas Kapikad who plays a main role in the film. The friends of yesteryears also sat together for some time and discussed about Tulu dramas and films.

Though a small misunderstanding had created a rift between them, they seemed to have forgotten their ill feelings and probably signalled the coming of spring in Tulu world. It was no doubt a historic moment for Tulu films.

Vijay Kumar Kodialbail also visited the shooting that was held at Malli Layout near Kavoor Gandhinagar and wished the producers and directors well.

The film has Devadas Kapikad, Bhojraj Vamanjoor, Sunder Rai Mandara, Naveen Padil, Aravind Bolar, with promising actor Arjun Kapikad and Surendra Bantwal in special roles. Kapikad and Surendra Bantwal have written one song each in the film.  It is unique that the two of them worked in one film.

Tulu art lovers hope that Kapikad's son Arjun Kapikad may act in Vijay Kumar Kodialbail's next film.
