Udupi, Jun 12: A tiff between members of two religious communities over the hoisting of a flag triggered violence at Kota Badukere here on Sunday, Jun 11.
The episode turned violent when two motor bikes and one house was burnt down in the clashes.
The controversy on the hoisting of the flag took place couple of months back. On Sunday at a wedding ceremony near a temple the two groups engaged in a clash wherein swords and home-made explosives were used, witnesses say.
The two-wheeler of Vijay a local, a scooter and the house of Abbu were set on fire in the violent acts.
A total of 20 persons were injured in the clashes. The police had to resort to smearing of tear gas to disperse the crowd during which three more were injured.
Police officials including IGP Satyanarayan Rao, Udupi superintendent of police Subramanyeshwara visited the spot.
