Mangalore, Apr 3: Mangalore city police commissioner R Hitendra on Thursday April 3 briefed about the various road diversions that will be implemented in the city on account of the visit of Congress party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday April 4 at 5 pm.
“The diversions are applicable under Motor Vehicle Act from noon on Friday till the VIPs leave the venue. Vehicle parking by the side of the roads within a radius of 500 meters from the venue has been strictly prohibited. Parking of all types of vehicle is prohibited at the Circuit House until Rahul Gandhi and his entourage leave the venue. Three various sectors of diversions along the main road have been implemented at the junctions,” he said.
“Various interior connecting roads in the city will be shut down completely for security purpose. The movement of all vehicles will be completely stopped when the VIP entourage is passing in the city and on the highway. Vehicles with pre-approved VIP passes will be permitted and parking will be made available at taluk panchayat premises and surrounding places. The above mentioned regulations will not be applicable for VIP vehicles, police vehicles, and emergency service vehicles," said Hitendra.
Speaking about the alleged harassment of corporator Prathibha Kulai, he said that of the five accused, two have already been arrested and produced in court. “One of them is a minor who has been involved in various murder cases as well,” he added.
Regarding the death of 22-year-old Rohit at Tannir Bavi which his claim to be a case of murder, he said that an FIR has already been registered and investigations will be carried out from all angles including murder. He assured that proper action would be taken.
About the seizure of a large amount of explosives in Karkala, Hitendra said, “Explosives weighing 95 tonnes have been seized. This is a huge cache and as the area is close to the Naxal belt and as elections are also approaching, the case has been referred to the NIA and they are carrying out further investigations.”
