Mangalore, Apr 4: ‘UnSeen, a Musical Rendezvous’ organized by Music Cube, a music school and instrument store, will be held on Thursday April 24, at St Agnes Special School Grounds, opposite Bendore Church, from 6 pm to 10 pm.
The event is being organized as a fundraiser for the NGO ‘Music for Change’ which teaches music and dance to blind children of Roman and Catherine school for the Blind and special children at Chetana Child development centre.
The money thus collected will enable the organization to send music and dance teachers to schools for physically, mentally, and financially impaired children on a regular basis making music a part of their curriculum and enabling them to buy the required instruments for the purpose.
The fundraiser will feature a musical performance by the band Rhythm of Love (ROL) with an array of well-known Bollywood, Western, and original numbers. There will be a dance performance by well-known Mangalorean hip-hop dance crew 'Frictions', and a special musical performance by young and budding musicians.
The event is expected to attract a crowd of around 1,000 and is being handled by Third Eye Ventures which has Arjun John D’Souza as the manager and Disha Gloria Prabhu in charge of public relations.
Donations to the NGO can be made in the form of cash or cheques.
About Music for Change
Music for Change is the brainchild of Ashish Jason Palanna, a music teacher, Punith Kumar, a dance teacher, and Arjun John D’Souza, a sailor by profession and a music enthusiast.
Music for Change is a non-governmental organization that strives to provide an opportunity to disabled and underprivileged children (blind, specially-abled, financially backward), in and around Mangalore to learn this universal language of music and dance. It strives to provide a platform to special children and also those who suffer from economic drawbacks and bring out the best in them.
The concept of an NGO with the cause of making music a medium of providing happiness for children came from a coincidental meeting with Roman and Catherine School for the Blind, a blind school in Mangalore. Speaking to the school principal, who is a blind yet incredibly efficient administrator, came this realization that music is always provided only to the privileged children everywhere. Disabled children also have incredible talent but they lack the opportunity to use this talent. There was also another barrier of not having enough funds to buy instruments or employ music teachers to serve the purpose.
Going around Mangalore to assess the situation, we came across Chethana Child development
centre, which is a rehabilitation center for challenged children. They showed immense interest in having their students engage in music and other forms of art but faced similar drawbacks. Music has been very strong and instrumental in changing many lives. It has the power to empower anyone and make them independent. Hence the concept of ‘music for change’ was born.
