Mysore: Four-time former MLA Shankarlinge Gowda no more

Mysore, Apr 6: Former BJP MLA Shankarlinge Gowda who later joined JD(S) passed away at a hospital here on Sunday April 6 night.

He was admitted to hospital three days ago and breathed his last at around 9.45 pm.

H S Shankarlinge Gowda was a seasoned politician who become MLA four consecutive times between 1994 and 2008. He was the BJP MLA of Chamaraja constituency in Mysore.

In 2013 Assembly elections, he moved over to JD(S) and lost.

In 1983 he became member of the Mysore city corporation and in 1988 he was elected as the mayor.

He won the Assembly elections for the first time in 1994.

After losing the 2013 Assembly elections, he took a sabbatical from politics and switched to agriculture, and set up a beans farm in TK Layout in Mysore.

He was born to Sidde Gowda and Kempamma of Hemmige village in Mandya district and belonged to a family of farmers.

    Sri.H.S.Shankaralinge Gowda was a most courageous and colourful politician.It is a great loss to human community, especially citizens of Karnataka that to of Mysore City.I have not seen any other MLA/MP in Mysore Region,who would respond to call of common man even in the dead of night.He has helped lot of religious institutions in Mysore City including Maharishi Self Development Centre @ Sharadevinagar.He has done ominous service to human community.It may be difficult to find a parallel to his personality at this hour of mess in our politics.He carried a worry till his death that, the right man was not given right place.Any how, he will be remembered by people of Mysore for a very long time.May God rest his soul in peace.I pray almighty to give enough strength to his family to bear the unbearable loss.

    Sri Shankarlinge Gowda was the City Corporator of our area while we were studying at Mysore. We had approached him with our problem of acute water scarcity at the HUDCO layout where we were residing. Mr Gowda took personal interest and saw to it that booster pumps were installed and water supply was equally distributed to all areas of the colony, giving us specific timings every day. May his soul rest in peace.

    Even though Shankarlinge Gowda was a little eccentric, still he is very courageous and challenged BJP in the corridor of Vidhan Saudha when BJP was still in Power.
    Even though he was a loyal member of BJP since very long, still he was not given Ministership and his junior Ramdas was made minister based on Caste. Gowda then left BJP and joined JDS and cursed that BJP will not come to power in the 2013 Assembly election, and it came true.
