Rome, Jun 16: Fr Lancy Rodrigues SVD defended his Doctoral Thesis publicly at the Alfonsianum Academy of the Pontifical Lateran University here in Rome. The theme of the thesis was, “A critique of Globalization in the Light of Catholic Social Teaching with a Special Reference to India”.
The thesis focuses on the multi-dimensional aspect of globalization while taking into consideration Catholic social teachings of the Church. The main thrust of the Academy of Alfonsianum is to prepare teachers in the camp of Moral Theology.
Fr. Lancy Rodrigues is the son of Florine Rodrigues and late Albert Rodrigues and hails from the Holy Spirit Parish, Sampige of the Mangalore Diocese. He did his B. Com studies from the Indore University in 1978. Later he continued his Philosophical as well as Theological studies at the Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune.
He was ordained to the priesthood on 10th May 1984 at the Church of Our Lady of Remedies, Kirem. He did his pastoral ministry in the Dioceses of Rourkela as well as Sambalpur in Orissa. He was sent to Rome to do Licentiate in Moral Theology which he completed in 1994. Then returning to India he served in the Archdiocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar and was a visiting Professor at the Regional Major Seminary at Sason, Sambalpur from 1995-2001.
Fr. Lancy is the member of the Konkani group in Rome. He hopes to dedicate his life, teaching Moral Theology in India and provide guidance to people in his priestly ministry.
