Udupi, Apr 11: The district SVEEP committee of Udupi organized a ‘Rangoli’ competition ahead of the Lok Sabha election to create awareness among people. The polls will be held in Udupi taluk panchayat on Thursday April 17.

The opening ceremony of the competition was headed by Dr Muddumohan, Udupi DC and president of SVEEP committee, and M Kanakavalli, district CEO.

The DC addressed the gathering and said, “People in Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency are politically conscious. In the previous year, about 68 percent voted in the Lok Sabha election. We are striving to increase the average to 80-85 percent and everyone should exercise their franchise compulsorily.”

“The drawing of rangolis shows creativity and it conveys good  messages,” he said. The DC said that such programmes play a crucial role in creating awareness among people and appreciated the organizers of the event.

Nearly 50 teams participated and the members were all EPIC card holders. After that, certificates and gifts were distributed to all participants and the DC announced that the names of winners will be released later.

Pranesh Rao, vice secretary, district panchayat, Manjunath, manager, taluk panchayat, Ramachandra Bayari , district health and family welfare minister, Sadanand, child welfare authority, and Subrahmanya ,engineer, municipality, were present on the occasion.
