Driver killed, 15 passengers injured as buses collide at Mulky

Mangalore, Apr 19: A KSRTC driver was killed and at least 15 passengers injured when two buses collided head-on in the wee hours of Saturday April 19 at Kolnad near Mulky.

The incident took place at around 5:45 am when a Hubli-Mangalore KSRTC sleeper bus rammed into a private bus (Pragati), plying from Bangalore to Udupi.

It is said that the KSRTC bus was on the wrong side and being driven at a high speed. While trying to overtake another vehicle, the bus collided with a private bus approaching from the opposite direction.

While the private bus driver sustained serious injuries, the KSRTC bus driver died on the spot.

At least 15 passengers were injured and admitted to the Mukka Srinivas hospital along with the private bus driver.

A case has been registered in Mulky police station.

    Partial responsibility is on our infrastructure also. The Mangalore Udupi highway ..Especially after Surathkal...you dont understand which is your way and where is the diversion. all of sudden you see vehicles in front of you. above all you see many jokers keeping their head light on and coming on your way , I mean on their wrong side. they come with the same speed and threatening you to give them the way. Looks so stupid. they think it's their right to be on the wrong side. just to save some money they do this but many lose their lives due to this. Also, these heavy vehicle drivers, especially express bus drivers, they are under the impression that roads are bought by their bus owners and road belongs to them. driving so rashly, threatening others, horning, putting headlight dim dipper... offf.... my god. It's scary to get down to our roads. No idea from where who comes and bangs you. hats off to our RTO and Police.

    It seems rash driving has become order of the day, claiming innocent lives, almost daily. Lack of basic traffic sense and discipline are lacking among young drivers. No wonder, why they are known as dying breed ! Sad but true.

    High driving is not as simple as driving in city. Overtaking is a high risk act which all drivers think that they can do easily till they meet with such situation. Unfortunately, we do not have road dividers on all highways as seen in all developed countries. In fact many of these foreigners are shocked to see the traffic conditions of Indian Highways. Nobody knows when our Govt does such improvements in our country. They are busy saving their chair.

    I do not when our govt will take any actions . N number of accidents happening everywhere in India, but still our govt is sleeping .. But on the other side, I feel why the hell govt has to take any action when people itself are not bothered about their lifes or someones life ....Express bus is dominating the entire road they do drive like crazy and its really hard for the 2 wheelers and other smaller vehicles .I think govt should make a compulsory rules to use speed governor or bring out a strict rules to follow the traffic rules and regulation ...

    Well said madam, disastrous accidents can be avoided through proper steps by the appropriate authorities. Private Express busses are hellish in these areas.

    as always buses travel at an over speed.their speeds need to be controlled for a better driving for others.following traffic rules is another big issue.with no. of vehicles increasing each day the basics of driving have to be followed.its upto the traffic officers.

    While overtaking always judge the oncoming vehicle speed by offsetting your vehicle from your front vehicle, on a one-way road.

    Surprisingly, I encountered both these vehicles that today morning met with an accident the Eeco and the KSRTC bus. Both were driving very Rashly... Eeco driver's accident was confirmed the style he was driving. And KSRTC fellow has not given side to me for a long distance, he stopped only when a passenger got down...

    Good Point. Yes, reminds all of us that with todays power packed vehicles high speeding will only gain you seconds in travel but will cost a life. simple math calculates how much time do u save in a short distance of 10kms if u accelerate from 60 to 100kmh nothing but 4.6 minutes is it worth.
