Mangalore, Apr 19: Christians across the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi began Easter celebrations on Saturday April 19 evening, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Holy Week which began with Palm Sunday, culminates with the Easter Sunday. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday marked the passion of Christ and crucification, respectively.

The Easter Vigil Masses were attended by thousands of faithful in their respective parishes. The congregation lit candles signifying the victory of light over darkness and thereby enlightenment. Chanting of psalms and scriptures resonated in the air.
The candlelight ceremonies included the blessing of the Pascal candle and blessing of fire and holy water. The church organ, which in the Lenten season was silent, was enlivened by the choirs.

Alleluia, He has truly Risen. He has Risen 2000 years ago and He will not Rise once again. It is we, you and me have to Rise from our past for a blissful tomorrow. So much to witness so soon from a distance the solemnity and grace of the Easter vigil taking place in Mangalore, our beloved home town, under the guidance and leadership of Bishop Aloysius added with his clergy and his community. Thousands of people congregating the spirit of Christ and seeking God's blessings on our families, on our towns, on our countries, and most importantly on our ever disturbing world with so many calamities.Special prayers are recited in Australia, Maleysia and America for the mysterious disappearance of Maleysian Airline flt 370 the tragedy at Mount Everest thru the unexpected avalanche, and now the tragedy of the Cruise in South Korea where hundreds of school children still missing after 4 days of sinking. Needless to say, the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia is also a major concern for escalation. There is so much of unrest in so many places - why?All the above calamities and situations are sad and need be remembered in our prayers and thoughts during this time of Easter.During the recent visit of Her Majesty, the Queen of England to Vatican, it was an amazing fact and feeling that Pope Francis requested Her Majesty to pray for Him. That shows the power and value of prayer in these changing times. We all need peace, and we all need prayers, specially during this week the world at large is commemorating the history that took place nearly 2000 years ago in Jerusalem.Happy Easter to all of you. Mangalore needs timely rain. Mangalore also needs peaceful outcome of the elections. All of these are the priorities of our thoughts and prayers.Happy Easter to all of you.
