Mangalore: Abundant rainfall at foot of Western Ghats, none in DK

Mangalore, Apr 21: Most of the places located at the foot of the Western Ghats received moderate to heavy rainfall on the night of Saturday April 19 and Sunday evening. While Kundapur taluk experienced light to heavy rains on Saturday night, Karkala taluk got good rain on Sunday evening. The rain which was reported from Areshirur, Halkal,Idoor, Hosur, Alur, Vanse, Chittur etc, was coupled with thunder and lightning.

Hosangady, Madamakki, Hallihole etc in Kundapur taluk, and various places in Karkala taluk, which are located at the foot of the Western Ghats, got good rain on Saturday night and again on Sunday evening. No loss due to rain was reported from these places. Dakshina Kannada district however, went without any rain on Sunday.

Several places in Chikmagalur district including Sringeri, Kadur, Koppa, Moodigere, and Tarikere, got good rain on Sunday afternoon, bringing relief from rising temperature. A number of villages and towns in Hassan district also reported good rainfall.

The meteorological department has predicted rainfall to continue in the above places for three to four more days. Light rain has also been predicted for coastal Karnataka during these days. The deputy director of fisheries, Kasargod, has warned about chances of wind with a velocity of 45 t0 55 knots per hour blowing over Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts during the next 24 hours. He has asked the fishermen and people living in the coast to be very cautious.
