Udupi, Apr 22: Karkala MLA and chief whip of the opposition in the state assembly, Sunil Kumar, criticized the state government’s decision to entrust the case in which a person died in shootout by Anti Naxal Force personnel, to inquiry by criminal investigation department (CID), and to pay a compensation of five lac rupees to the kin of the deceased person. He was addressing a press conference held here on Monday April 21.

‘Prima facie, it has been proved that the concerned were involved in illegal cattle trafficking. They are facing several cases in different police stations. If the government disburses compensation to the families of the deceased, this will come as an incentive for cow slaughterers. Moreover, this will lower the morale of the police force of ANF,’ he observed.

Kumar said that it is commonly acceptable if compensation is paid in case of deaths during social service, movements for general welfare, etc. He said payment of compensation to those who get involved with criminal activities would give a wrong signal. He asked the government to withdraw theabove decisions, which he termed as having been taken in haste. He asked for detailed inquiry into the backgrounds of those arrested in the case, and for the initiation of effective measures to stop illegal cattle trafficking.

‘Why so many cases, which stand registered in different police stations relating to thefts of cows, are not being investigated? Those who have lost their cows have not received anything in the form of compensation from the government. The government is yet to conduct in-depth probe into the recovery of huge cache of explosive materials from Karkala recently. The investigation into gang rape in Deralakatte is yet to be concluded. The government remained mum, even after wife and family members of Mallikarjun Bande, a police official, demanded thorough probe into his death. At the same time, the government is eager to investigate the action of ANF, which has been working to regulate spread of naxalism. It is also every ready to swoop on Hindu activists who fight against illegal cattle trafficking. These things make the motive and aims of the state government crystal clear,’ he said.

District spokesperson of BJP, Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, was present in the press conference.

Why they are AFRAID of investigation?
May be their hand in glove with ANF might be Exposed, which they FEAR.
For each & every silly thing they want the probe, but not in this!!!
Regarding compensation- the government or police are not permitted to kill which is illegal & punishable under law, which Gujarath ATF, Amit Shah & Saheb have found out very lately too.

rajesh, surendra poojari- yes ur BD and crazy party are noble prize winners, it is very difficult to recognise them when some assault takes place...thieves who steal cattle must be punished, but don't assume that everybody who deals in cattle trading are thieves. most of us know that who likes to eat beef in hiding and acting later like a saint.

Allan..I am neither supporter of BJP/Congress or any political party. Also, I am not supporter of BD or KFD or any organization. In this case, the driver of vehicle didn't stop the vehicle when he was asked to stop. Why? Security personnel were forced to shoot at vehicle and unfortunately Kabeer died. This is not Abudhabi my friend. We have lot of issues here and sometimes security personnel need to take strict action. Otherwise may Kasab's will attack our mother land.

    What are Indians heading towards?

While it is OK to set free rapists and murderers of human beings on the other hand, there is a majority of us who seem to advocate that it is OK to shoot and kill illegal cattle traffickers.

The guy in the picture does not seem that illiterate, yet his comments are far below the wisdom of any rational human being.

Dear Surendra Poojari, Mangalore - How can you give such expert comments and your verdict? Were you present at the location?? You do not know the circumstances and also the reality. For you it is easy to comment, but someone has lost their near and dear one for someone's irresponsible act. It's almost like the Ishrat Jahan's case.

I completely agree with Sunil Kumar. This is known case of cattle theft and driver of vehicle didn't stop the vehicle when he was told to stop. So, the security personnel thought that this vehicle belongs to Naxals and they fired at the vehicle and Kabeer was killed. We should cooperate with security personnel as there are lot of threats either from naxals or terrorists. There are lot of other genuine cases which needs to be tackled first.

Surendra Poojari, Mangalore, Were you there standing near the check post at the time this incident happened. You are taking as if it happened in front of your eyes. Don't be a feku and fool like your idol Sunil kumar. He is notorious for his venom speeches in the past also. You or Sunilkumar is not the authority to decide what to be done and what not. What do you want Beedi investigation instead of CoD investigation?

Madhav..I don't have to be present on the spot when any incident happens. I am reading news papers and also watch news channels. For me what is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. I am not supporter of Sunil Kumar or Ramanath Rai or any politician. I upheld truth and I stick to my point. But as a MLA, Sunil Kumar has every right to raise his concerns as he is member of Karnataka assembly. I don't care if you call me Feku or Peeku as these words are not applicable for me. Before commenting anything, do your homework. It will be better for you.

Surendra Poojari, Mangalore...How do you know this is the truth without any proper inquiry or investigation. You already came to a conclusion on media reports.
If we go by your logic, we don't need any Investigation agencies, police, etc. because some newspaper reports are gospel truth for you. do some homework next time you upheld some truth.
