Bangalore: No CBI probe into killing of Kabeer by ANF: Home minister

Bangalore, Apr 22 (PTI): Karnataka Home Minister K J George today refused to pay heed to the demand for a CBI probe into the killing of a youth by Anti-Naxal Force personnel at a checkpost near Sringeri in Chikmagalur district, even as a section of his partymen insisted on probe by the central probe agency.

"The CID is competent to investigate the incident and the government would take appropriate action once the probe report is submitted," he told reporters here.

The Anti-Naxal Force personnel allegedly had shot dead Kabeer at Tanikodu check-post on Sringeri–Karkala Road on April 19. The police, however, had clarified that the ANF officials mistook him for a Maoist.

George said he has told the CID officials to expedite the preliminary report and they have assured him that they would submit it in the next two to three days.

The Karnataka Muslim Federation, led by Information Minister Roshan Baig and veteran Congress leader Janardhan Poojary have urged Siddaramaiah to hand over the investigation to CBI.

George said there is nothing wrong in Poojary demanding a CBI enquiry into the matter, but he could only decide after the submission of the preliminary report.

"Moreover, I am only a recommending authority. The decision to hand over any case to the CBI rests on the Chief Minister," he contended.

He also argued that handing over the case to CBI would demoralise his department, however, he was not against taking such a step.

On several occasions in the past the government has given some cases to CBI, George said.

But here was no pressure from politicians for urging the Govt. to handover soujanya murder case to CBI where an innocent girl was raped and killed. Now a person illegally trading cattle and this case are recommended for CBI by the very same politicians. very strange.

I am against Congress policy, but this time I support the Govt stand. CBI enquiry can be ordered to supisious death of any VIP's, NGO's etc, not to some cattle thieves. The govt has already compensated them in Jupiter speed, that itself is big.

Since state Govt will be party for this gruesome murder,CBI inquiry is must.State officials will protect their comrade for certain level which may weaken the whole episode.HOME MINISTER SHOULD TAKE MORAL RESPONSIBILITY AND TENDER HIS RESIGNATION.APART FROM THAT MORAL POLICING CONTINUES IN TWIN DISTRICTS WHICH AFTER SEVERAL PROMISES DID NOT STOP.INCOMPETENCY FROM HOME DEPARTMENT MAIN REASON.

It's a good move by the Govt, The CID is a good enough authority to bring out the truth.
People who were supporting the ANF are now suddenly blaming state govt too( they rarely get a chance to do so, unlike the earlier few govt's).

    Nonetheless, let the Truth prevail...

That's the reason we need SDPI. Its time to stop supporting Congress and start promoting SDPI. At least we will have few MLAs in 2018, else we will continue for ever getting few thousand votes and keep facing these incidents. See Home minister...voting is over and now he ditched us.

Please dont mix issues here. cattle trading is a different issue thatn naxal bari. even if somebody else behaved in similar way during anti naxal operations they would have got shot. so called seculars are tyring to create mileage out of this issue. why did they not cooperate with ANF and ran away? he was not killed for cattle trading but for acting suspiciously infront of Anti Naxal force by running away from check post
