Bangalore, Apr 22: Karnataka’s power situation is comfortable and there will not be load shedding in the coming summer days this year.

This promise was given by Karnataka’s Energy Minister D K Shivakumar In Bangalore on Tuesday.

Addressing reporters, he said adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure that there would be no load shedding in the coming summer season.

A total of 208 million units made available against the demand for 168 million units per day on April 22, Shivakumar said.

Noting that adequate water storage has been maintained in all hydro reservoirs in the State to ensure uninterrupted power supply till the arrival of monsoon, he said there has been reduction in the demand from the agricultural sector.

However, there would be one or two hours power cuts on account of repair works to be taken by electricity supply companies, he said.

Ruling out power cuts in urban areas of the State, he said all electricity supplying companies have been supplying 18 hours of power in rural areas (three phase for sevens hours and single phase for 11 hours).

A total of 450 MW has been purchased from private firms daily, he said.

Generation from wind sources increased and the state has been drawing 450 MW wind energy, he said.
