Mangalore, Apr 23: “The DKDCC leaders have exerted pressure on the state government and the home minister to carry a clear and detailed investigation with regard to the Kabeer shoot out incident in Sringeri,” said Congress leader Ivan D’Souza.

He was addressing the press at the district Congress office, here on Wednesday April 23.

He said, “District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai has personally spoken to the home minister about this case. There is a need for the truth to be brought to the notice of the people and hence the investigation must be clear and transparent. If there is any drawback in the investigation, the case has to be handed over to the CBI.”

“The compensation has to be given to the kin of Kabeer as they are financially backward and are in need of support. U T Khadar, the health minister who visited Kabeer’s house has declared a compensation of Rs 5 lacs. Ramanath Rai too visited their house and looking at their condition has urged the home minister to give a compensation of Rs 10 lacs,” he added.

He continued, “The BJP has been addressing the media in Beltangady and is trying to divert the case; it is clear that the BJP and its aided association wants to know the truth behind this case and hence have been protesting with different aspects, trying to divide the society on communal lines.”

He said, “HJV leader Sathyajeeth Surathkal has urged the government to take back the compensated amount from his family. These words are not acceptable as the family is in need of financial aid. There are legal actions to be taken against cattle theft, forcible trafficking and so on, but not a shootout or an encounter.”

“The BJP has been giving a communal color to this incident, right from day one. Yesterday, the Bajarangadal activists smeared cow dung on the KKSV president. After the activists were arrested by the police, Bajarangadal leader Jagadeesh Shenava had been to the police station and urged not to put petty cases on the activists and to release them, this indeed shows their mentality and that they are trying to create communal clashes in the district,” he said.

“The Congress is fighting for justice in this case and the investigations have also begun. The preliminary investigation reports are to be submitted within 3 days. We want the people to know the truth and we are not playing any political game. Our veteran leader Janardhan Poojary has also urged the government to submit the case to the CBI,” he concluded.

Leaders Ibrahim Kodijal and T K Sudhir were present.

Why stop at 10 lakhs? Why not 20 or 50 or even 1 Crore? Politicians like to their names into every controversy to get mileage. There isn't another election in near future, so I'm surprised that these guys even care.

Kabeer did not deserve to die just because he was transporting cattle - legally or illegally. His family has been compensated for their loss and an inquiry has been ordered. Let the inquiry complete and guilty - if any - be punished. Enough of this drama of trying to distribute someone else's money to gain fame for themselves.

i think it is not fair government announcing such a huge sum for compensation with out completing judicial and C.I.D enquiry, it is done only for pleasing a community and making wide resentment in other communities , as per my knowledge A.N.F and police has being doing vehicle checking and interception in sringeri, karkala , agumbe and ajekar p.s limits from last 10 years after noticing naxal movement in that area, one more thing that the government has to notice that wot is the amount of compensation given to the A.N.F martyrs like Guruprasad and Mane who sacrificed their life for anti naxal operations , and we should also think that how many days their families wandered in govt offices to clear their compensation
