Puttur, Jun 21: Heavy rains coupled with thunderstorm in the Kutrupady gram panchayat area of Kadaba near here resulted in damage to public property on Monday June 19 late evening and night.

While rain lashed continuously, trees fell on the roads and electric poles causing heavy damage.  Three trees that fell along the Karkala-Hosmath road resulted in traffic jam.  On the other hand more than rubber plants were uprooted at Ullanadka resulting in a loss of Rs 40,000.

Electricity supply and telephone services were badly affected in the area.  More than 150 houses are in complete dark owing to electricity failure.  Many electric poles too have fallen along the way while coconut tree and betel nut trees that have fallen on livewires have resulted in electricity failure in some places.

The telephone lines have been worst hit owing to rains and thunderstorms.  The area is almost devoid of any communication with other areas.
