Kundapur, Jun 22: The state government has promised to probe into the alleged misappropriation of public money in making of gold chariot at Shri Mookambika Temple at Kollur near here.

This was announced in the Vidhana Soudha during the ongoing monsoon session on Wednesday June 21.  Answering to a query by BJP member Balkrishna Bhat, Udupi district in-charge minister and state minister for medical education Dr V S Acharya promised to look into the matter at the earliest.

Balkrishna Bhat had stated that the state government had given permission to used Rs 2.5 crore from the temple fund in the making of gold chariot.  But the managing committee had used Rs 45 lac even before the permission was given by the government, he added.

Dr V S Acharya assured that the auditors are checking the temple accounts.  Once that is over, the entire matter will be subjected to an official enquiry, said Dr Acharya.
