Mangalore, Jun 22: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on Thursday June 22 evening held a programme to honour two stalwarts of Tulu language at the Academy chavadi at 4 pm.

U Taranath Nayak and H Shakuntala Bhat who have contributed immensely for Tulu language and culture were honoured by former mayor K Diwakar and senior theater personality Ratnakar Rao Kavoor respectively.

Later Vedavati G Shetty memorial endowment lecture on "Contribution of Tulunadu in the Unification of Karnataka" was held.  Prof Tukaram Poojary, head of history department of SVS College, Bantwal delivered the lecture.  Mudipu Tulu literary awards too were presented on the occasion.

Tulu academy president M K Sitaram Kulal presided over the function.  Former mayor K Diwakar, Ratnakar Kavoor and Vedavati G Shetty were the chief guests on the occasion.

Tulu academy member B N Harish Bolur welcomed the gathering.  Sarojini Shetty and Jayanti S Bangera, members, introduced the guests to the gathering. Dr Ganesh Amin Sankamar proposed the vote of thanks and Dr Gananath Yekkar compered the programme.
