Mangalore, Jun 23: A newly-married woman has lodged a complaint with regards to the dowry harassment with the police with the Panambur police.

Asma Ul Hasna (21), a resident of Kudroli in a complaint with the police has stated that her husband Mohammad Asgar, in-laws Hasanabba and Jainabi, brother-in-law Afzar and his her husband's friends Arif and Ashif harassed her and forced her for dowry within 3 days of her marriage.

Ironically Asma and Asgar, a resident of Jokatte near here were in love with each other for the last couple of years and they married on Tuesday June 14. Since Asma's family was residing in Jokatte earlier, they knew each other.  It was only sometime ago that they had shifted their house to Kudroli.  It is said that Asma's family gave 20 sovereigns of gold and Rs 20,000 in dowry during the marriage.

But within 3 days after the marriage Asma's husband and in-laws asked her to fetch more dowry from her parental house.  When she did not respond, they tortured her physically as well as mentally, she stated.

Meanwhile accused Asgar has been granted anticipatory bail in the case by a local court.
