Kuwait, May 1: Thursday April 24 was indeed a memorable event to be written in the history of the Udupi Diocese as the parishioners of Pius Nagar Welfare Committee Kuwait held a grand felicitation for Dr Gerald Lobo, the first bishop of the Udupi Diocese.
The Pius Nagar parishioners in Kuwait shared their joy by a being part of the unique celebrations of Dr Gerald Lobo on being the first bishop of Udupi. On this occasion the families of PWCK organized an event at the Hi Dine Restaurant in honour of Dr Gerald I Lobo.
The president of PWCK, Richard Menezes welcomed Dr Gerald I Lobo and other dignitaries Fr Noel D’Almeda and Louis D’costa. The dignitaries were greeted with bouquets by the children of the parish.
The program began with a prayer by Sunil Menezes, followed by a prayer dance invoking the blessings of the Almighty God. The dance was choreographed by Mable.
General secretary of PWCK Remy Fernandes, in a special and unique way spoke about Dr Gerald as a living testimony, his early life, nearly 40 years of priesthood, vibrant personality and involvement in religious, spiritual and social causes. He said that success and fulfillment were the rewards of his missionary vision and service towards the community. Dr Gerald a very cheerful person has been appointed as the first bishop of the Udupi Diocese and is a proud moment for Catholics of the diocese. Dr Gerald Lobo has made things happen with his energetic leadership and qualities of a true friend.
As a cake symbolizes celebrations, the cake was cut. A felicitation song was sung by Glades Noronha and group. Dr Gerald was felicitated by the PWCK in a very traditional manner by honouring him with a shawl, garland, fruits and flowers and was presented with a memento by Fr Noel and other dignitaries on stage.
The gathering got to know Dr Gerald closely as he shared experiences of his religious life; he also spoke of the vision and mission his team and he had for the Udupi Diocese. He extended his gratitude for the love shown towards him on the occasion.
A large number of Pius Nagar parishioners and the invited guests attended the function.
Roshan Quadras proposed the vote of thanks. He thanked the bishop and Fr Noel for gracing the occasion and spending time with the attendees. He also thanked the sponsors for their support and help that made the function a huge success.
Fr Noel blessed the meals, after which a delicious dinner was served by Hi Dine Restaurant.
The celebration will remain in the church history; it will never be forgotten by those who attended the event.
