Bantwal, Jun 24: A band of three thieves who forcefully broke open into a house at Kaniyoor-Kodimar near Sangabettu here on Thursday June 22 night have decamped with valuables worth Rs 74,110.

The thieves came to one Muttu Shedti's house at Kaniyoor-Kodimar late in the night on Thursday.  They knocked on the door and asked the house members to give them a torch.  However, Muttu Shedti and Kamala Shedti who were there in the house refused to open the door for the strangers late in the night.

At this point, the thieves forcefully broke open the door and entered the house.  When Muttu Shedti tried to call police over the phone, they disconnected the phone.  Later they threatened the women and snatched gold chain, mangalsuthra, earrings and gold bangles from both the elderly women. 

Then they force Muttu Shedti to give cupboard key with which they opened the cupboard and stole Rs 15,300 in cash.  While leaving the house, the thieves also stole a TV set and 30 kilograms of peeled betel nut.

The total value of the stolen valuables is estimated at Rs 74,110.  Bantwal rural police have booked a case in this regard.
