Udupi, May 4: The Gemini Circus has arrived in the city at an apt time, when all children have completed their annual exams and are on the lookout for new and interesting ways to spend their leisure time.

The circus which will stay in the city for 40 days was inaugurated at the Kalsanka Royal Garden in the city on Friday May 2 by Vinay Kumar Sorake, district-in-charge minister.

Sorake said in his inaugural speech, “The Gemini circus show is famous and has a long history. Now, people in Udupi have an opportunity to enjoy this show.” Pramod Madhwaraj also conveyed best wishes for the smooth running of the circus.”

The Gemini Circus Company which was founded in August 1951 is the only circus company in India which has been active since the past six decades. The circus boasts of well-trained artistes and animals and acts like the ‘3 Eye Spring Net’, ‘Vertical Swinging Acrobat’, and ‘Russian Stick Balance’ are its trademark.

I can still recall those summers when as young children we looked forward to the arrival of circus at Nehru Maidan in Mangalore. Besides, we used to spend long hours outdoor. Today, youngsters have several avenues to entertain themselves. However, what is disheartening is the fact that they are either clued to TV sets far too long or use mobile phones for undesirable and unhealthy activities. Circus is pure entertainment for the whole family. I strongly encourage parents and youngsters to patronize this wholesome entertainment.
