Chitradurga, May 4: A woman committed suicide after killing her two daughters on Friday May 2. Reportedly, she took this extreme step, having been overwhelmed by worries over the family problems.

Manjula (36), a resident of Gunjiganur village in Holalkere taluk in the district gagged both her children, Keerti (10), and Priyanka (13), by stuffing clothes into their mouths and binding their hands in the back, before hanging them. She then committed suicide by hanging herself. It is said that Manjula could not bear the sight of the agony her husband, Shivamurty, who is said to have been neck-deep in debt, has been going through.

Keerti was a fifth standard student, while Priyanka was in eighth standard. No others were at home when the mother decided to end life. A report in this respect was registered in Chikkajajur police station.

As soon as he came to know of the devastating news, Shivamurty absconded, and a search for him is on, policemen said.
