Karkala, May 5: “The state government has let down the morale of the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) by charging ANF personnel Naveen Nayak with IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) in the recent shoot-out incident at Tanikodu check-post. This move by the Congress government was an aftermath of the incident and unfortunately is the first in the history of Karnataka,” said Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar.
He was addressing the massive protest rally jointly organized by VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) and Bajarang Dal at Karkala bus stand on Sunday May 4 to condemn the state government for its ridiculous move in booking ANF personnel under a murder charge.
Kumar sharply criticizing the illegal cattle trade that is on the rise said, “Apathy of the state government to put illegal cattle trading to rest was the reason for the shoot out. By
announcing Rs 10 lac as compensation amount for Kabeer's kin, the Congress party has resorted to minority appeasement. The ANF has been insulted by the government slapping a case on an ANF member who was just doing his duty.”
Further, lashing out against top police officials, he said that the top officers in the department have distanced themselves from the ANF personnel. “It is BJP along with other Hindu outfits that has come to boost the morale of the force standing along with the ANF in their struggle.”
“Naveen has killed because the ANF was obstructed in carrying out its duty,” pointed out Kumar.
“The team lead by Kabeer was illegally trading in cattle. They tried to flee the place without co-operating with the ANF's order to enable them to investigate the vehicle. This forced the ANF to launch an attack. It was fair action taken in the wee hours in a Maoist infested region,” he added.
Earlier, cadres of VHP and Bajrang Dal took out a protest march culminating at Karkala bus stand.
Bykadi Suprasad Shetty, VHP president, Udupi, Sunil K R, district convener, Bajrang Dal, and Mahesh Shetty, taluk convener, Bajrang Dal, were present during the rally.
