Mangalore: Tipper lorry, truck collide at Nantoor - Two injured

Mangalore, May 6: Two persons were seriously injured in a collision between a tipper lorry and a truck at Nantoor circle early morning on Tuesday May 6.

The sand-laden tipper lorry was plying towards the city from Kulshekar side while the truck carrying boxes of Coca-Cola soft drink cans was reportedly moving towards Kerala.


The accident took place when the Coca-Cola truck, said to be moving at a high speed, rammed into the tipper lorry near the circle.

The impact was such that both the vehicles toppled and hundreds of Coca-Cola boxes were strewn on the road. 

The traffic police booth was also uprooted.

The drivers of both the vehicles sustained serious injuries. Their identities are not yet known.

Sources said that the driver of the Coca-Cola truck was drowsy and driving at a high speed.

Kadri police arrived at the spot.

    Shame on thirsty citizens expecting free coke from the accident zone.Instead of helping police easen the spot clearance,it's pity that some people were more worried about free drink-proving M'loreans 2 b Mafatlal's. Humanity is in it's lowest level.God,pl.bear with these thirsty folksMay be,the water scarcity is pushing them all for this crazy act for a free drink out from the trajic accident zone.

    Hi,
    I have been on this junction many times and its always a hassle on who has to move first on this junction even after there are Traffic Police standing, as this a a highway junction leading to various states there has be a traffic signal installed and maintained so that no body can get messed up and ending with these type of accidents. if the traffic signal is broken there should be a fine accordingly. Even same should be done in pumpwell junction

    I really don't understand why people dont follow simple driving & traffic rules for safety.This is a major concern in Mangalore.Driving at a high speed will not yield anything in fact such accidents only.Remember SPEED THRILLS, BUT KILLS!

    Overhead pass is long overdue. Before the mountain on either side was leveled in 1984, they could have planned overhead pass. may be we need DC like BharatLal Meena to suggest bright ideas. Politicians will come with political plans for their personal gain.

    The tripper driver should have waited.. Instead, he too hurried.. In the busy hours,there will be police on duty.. But we can't always blame them.. Cuz they too need rest... N might be the drivers wer drowsy because of late night driving too... !

    Reckless driving by these trucks..
    the funny thing was a person taking the soft drink tins in his lungi, some people taking it in gunny bags... some enjoying the accident with a soft drink...
    no one was worried to clear traffic till the bottles got empty.. :p

    Imagine people crossing the roads here in such a busy junction with no traffic police around.children and aged will have a very hard time crossing the roads.need to have a platform for people to cross the roads and the speed of heavy vehicles have to be brought under control otherwise, such incidents will always happen.such drivers have no sense whether they are driving on a highway or at a busy junction.their speeds remain the same everywhere.

    It is not Police, Roads or signals, but drivers who doesn't know when and where to apply brake and slow down the vehicles. They are thinking sitting on Maharajas seat while driving and not bothered about killing people with their negligence. Bus drivers are worst

    another tragic incident. agreeing with dilip , a flyover in this spot is the dire need of the hour. also agreeing with the gradient part , the junction has roads ascending to it and descending to it , making it a potential hazardous situation. The junction is also mis/poorly managed by the police. a signal at the moment and a flyover later , would be the solution.

    I pass by this junction four times every day and have to strongly say that the police do a very good job. At least 2 and upto 4 police are manning this junction during busy hours. To blame are us the road users who are not bothered to follow simple rules.

    In this case being early morning there were no police [not required too] and both truck drivers thought no rules required assumed it was an empty road and collided.

    yes, yet another accident... but the question will thise at least alert the authorities or officials ? it's such a big junction and there is no traffic signal, no enough traffic police available. when such vehicles approach with such a negligent drivers it may result in such a major disasters... wake up RTO, police... let's not wait for another accident to act upon...

    This is called a "Man-Made Tragedy".
    The Nanthoor Circle is poorly designed for a junction with level gradient. Such type of accidents are just waiting to happen at this spot since the junction has been redesigned. There are plenty of blind spots in this junction. I am a regular commuter on this road and I feel it's total chaos. A flyover is an urgent need here. Instead of building a flyover at Kulshekar-Kaikamba (which may be actually useful 20 years later), it would've been better to build one here.
    I hope the concerned authorities will take necessary action.
