Mangalore: Workshop on DELNET resources held at SJEC


Mangalore, May 8: St Joseph Engineering College Mangalore, in collaboration with DELNET New Delhi jointly organized a One Day Workshop on DELNET Resources and Services & Koha, an Open Source Integrated Library Management Software on Tuesday, May 6 from 10 am to 5 pm.

More than 80 Library professionals, Library and Information Science students, and Research Scholars from various institutions, in and around Karnataka, registered and took active part in the Workshop.















The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Khaiser Muneebulla Khan, professor and chairman of the Department of Library and Information Science in Mangalore University, who was the chief guest of the inaugural function.

The other dignitaries present on the dais were  Fr Joseph Lobo – director SJEC, who presided over the ceremony, Dr H K Kaul, director -DELNET, New Delhi, Fr Ajith Menezes and Fr Rohith D’Costa – assistant directors - SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza – Vice Principal/Dean-MCA - SJEC, Dr Sangeetha Kaul, Network Manager, DELNET, Dr Prakash Pinto, Dean MBA – SJEC and chairman of Library Advisory Committee and Dr Felcy D’Souza, Librarian-SJEC and coordinator of this DELNET Workshop.

The workshop comprised of three sessions namely – “New Trends in Managing Libraries”, presented by Dr H K Kaul, Director-DELNET, followed by “Networking Libraries through DELNET”  by Dr Sangeeta  Kaul, Network Manager - DELNET & Omkar N Safapuri, Consultant - DELNET Coordination Unit, Bangalore, and “Consortium for E-journals and E-books”. The post lunch-break sessions consisted of “Koha: an Open  Source Integrated Library Management System, by Dr Sangeeta Kaul, and a presentation on “SJEC, Mangalore, Karnataka” by Dr Felcy D’Souza,Librarian, SJEC. The sessions concluded with an open discussion and
feedback from participants of member-institutions.

The workshop ended with the valedictory function which was presided over by Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal - SJEC. The president and other dignitaries on the dais handed over the participation certificates.
