Kasargod, May 11: Police have arrested two prime accused in connection to several cases of mobile thefts.
The arrested are identified as Mohammed Rafiq (26), a resident of Kalathur, and Iritti resident K G Saju (34).
Police said that several cases of thefts of mobiles and jewellery are registered against them. It is said that they would enter crowded shops and steal mobiles from there.
Mohammed Rafiq was caught and handed over to the police by the locals in Kasargod when he was trying to sell mobile phones stolen from a shopping centre in Uppala.
When questioned by the police he confessed that Saju had stolen the phones and handed them over to him for selling. Saju was reportedly giving stolen mobile phones to Rafiq who would sell them. Investigations have revealed that stolen mobile phones costing several lacs have been sold by them. Saju was later caught by the police.
They are said to be involved in several thefts in Payyanur, Thalassery and Kasargod police station limits. They reportedly stole gold ornaments in Mattannur, Kannur and Thalassery jewellery stores. They posed as customers and stole finger rings and other jewellery, said the police.
The arrested are being questioned and the police said more cases of thefts are likely to be solved after the questioning.
