Higher percentage of women voted in Bengal than men


Kolkata, May 14 (IANS): A higher percentage of women voters exercised their franchise compared to men in the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies of West Bengal that voted in five phases.

The average turnout for the state stood at 82.22 percent, an Election Commission official said Wednesday.

Out of the state's total 6,24,68,988 electors, 47.99 percent were women.

In the five phases, the percentage of male voters - as per provisional figures - was 82.37, and that of females 82.51, Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Amitjyoti Bhattacharya told reporters here.
