SAC press release

Mangalore, Jun 30: The Department of Journalism, St Aloysius College, in collaboration with Abhinava - a quarterly Kannada Literary magazine, will be organizing a public function to celebrate the Kannada Press Day at 5 pm on July 1, in the Xavier Block Auditorium of the college here.

Sugata Shrinivasraju will the main speaker on the occasion. Shrinivasraju is a senior journalist with Outlook weekly. He is also in charge of South Asian affairs of the weekly. He will speak on Globalization  and Literary Magazines.

Prof. Srinivas Havanur, senior research scholar, will preside over the function. College principal Dr Eugene Lobo SJ will be the chief guest. 

Mangalore has a special significance to Kannada journalism. The first Kannada newspaper Mangalooru Samachara was started here on July 1, 1843 by the Basel Mission. The college celebrates this day as the birthday of Kannada Journalism.
