Mangalore, May 17: Jalajakshi Shettigar (63), residing at Kapikad in Mukka near Suratkal ended her life by pouring kerosene on herself and setting herself on fire. The incident occurred early morning Friday May 16.
In the wee hours, Jalajakshi's daughter sensed that her mother was not at home. She started searching for her mother. When she came out, flames emanating from a spot near her home became visible. On approaching the flames, she saw that her mother had immolated herself. Although she made efforts to extinguish fire, it was too late.
It is learnt that the two sons of lady work elsewhere, and Jalajakshi used to live with her daughter here. A report about this incident was filed in Mulky police station.
