The deceased has been identified as Lakshmi Kulal (20), daughter of Sanjeeva Kulal.

Sources said that Lakshmi married Suresh, a resident of Perdoor and rickshaw driver by profession on Sunday May 11 at the Perdoor Kulal Bhavan. She was staying in her husband’s house after marriage and had returned to her parental house after the reception ceremony. However, she jumped into the well at around 2 pm and committed suicide.

As per sources, the marriage expenses were borne by both the parties; parents had willingly given gold ornaments to their daughter and no dowry was demanded. She was fine and happy for eight days after marriage, and her husband said that he did not know why she took the drastic step.

She was working in a cashew factory and had willingly accepted to marry him. The investigations are being carried out by tahashildar Babu Devadiga. The exact reason for the suicide will be ascertained only after the reports are out.
