Mangalore, Jul 4: Twelve-year-old chess prodigy Adith Jagadish of Lourdes Central School has won the DCS Invitational Chess Tournament held on Jul 1 and 2 in city.

Adith scored unbeaten 5 points in 5 rounds to claim the honor.

In the final round 2nd Seeded Kaushik R failed to handle pressure against Adith in a complex endgame position where Adith had an extra pawn. Top seeded Prakash V Rao of Canara College had to be content for 2nd place with 4.5 points as the draw in penultimate round against Kaushik R proved too costly for him.

In the final round he scored win against Pampa Peraje.

Sumith Bhat of Canara High School edged over Yashas Salian of Lourdes Central School in a closely fought tiebreaker which extended to 3 games.

Yashas Salian was awarded best Under 12 Player. Shalon Pais of St Agnes Primary claimed Best Under 10 Player and Shabdik Varma of SDM, Ujire bagged Best Under 8 Player title.
 
The tournament comprised of 26 invited young leading and upcoming players from Dakshina Kannada district and was played in a 5 round Semi Classical Swiss League system.
 
Prizes were awarded by young entrepreneur Rajath Mendonca.
