Bantwal, May 24: Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim and superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa have jointly prepared a formula to ease traffic congestion in BC Road area. As per plans, the flyover will be opened for two-way traffic within the next fifteen days.
A B Ibrahim and Dr Sharanappa scrutinized the area and held discussions regarding causes for congestion with Bantwal DySP Rashmi Paradi, additional circle inspector Manjayya, tahsildar Malleswamy, town municipal official Ganesh, rural police inspector Nagaraj and others.
The planning director of National Highways Authority Dr Mishra was present. He said that he would take necessary measures to ensure smooth flow of two-way traffic on the flyover.
Chief town municipal council official Ganesh put across the problems of drainage because of the construction of flyover. When the commissioner enquired about issue with the planning director of national highways, he assured that the open drainages will be repaired within the next fifteen days, and that the drainage slabs will be joined and drains will be constructed on either sides of the road for flow of water.
Speaking to the reporters A B Ibrahim said that the district administration and the police department are taking necessary steps in the interest of vehicle drivers and commuters.
He said that the construction of railway overbridge that is in progress will be ready in six months and hoped that the traffic problems in BC Road will be solved completely after that. District Police Commissioner Dr Sharanappa said that two-way traffic will be allowed on the flyover on an experimental basis and police constables will be assigned to regulate the traffic. The two-way traffic will facilitate vehicle drivers and commuters, he said.
The formula stipulates that the vehicles coming towards BC Road bus stand should ply below the flyover, and vehicles that do not come to the bus stand and ply to Bangalore, Puttur and Dharmasthala should move over the flyover. To facilitate vehicles from Mangalore to go over the flyover dividers at Kaikamba or B C Road will have to be removed, and a notification would be issued to this effect.
