Mangalore, Jul 6: A delight to the eyes is the exhibition cum sale organized at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan premises which takes one of the colourful world of Patta Chaitras, Tassar Paintings, Stone and Wood Carvings, Palm leaf engravings, Apliques, Dhokra and an Excellent collection of silver filigree.

Pruthubi Handicrafts Co-operative Society from Bhubaneshwar is offering this rare chance for Mangaloreans to enjoy the unique artistic skills of the Oriya artisans.

Patta Chitras, Orissa’s traditional painting on a cloth canvas is the talk of the town as it is available to Mangaloreans at the exhibition. The cloth painting stiffened with tamarind seeds and chalk powder is usually done in cotton cloth using natural colours is now also done in Tassar Silk, which is more costly and much in demand.

At the exhibition one can find Dhokra brass castings that include not only ash trays and money boxes but also animal figures that give you a feeling of a brass menagerie.

Apart from Konark wheels, chariots, temples the fine silver wires and foils are fashioned together to create long lasting as well as decorative jewellery including necklaces, pendants, eardrops and toe rings.

Non Oriya stalls are also found in the exhibition which includes Minacary jewellery and Lacquard bangles from Jaipur, pickles and other eatables from Andra Pradesh and terracotta work from Kolkatta.

On Wednesday, the exhibition was inaugurated by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan honorary secretary G R Rai. The sale will go on till July 16.
