Bangalore: Yeddyurappa quits Karnataka Assembly membership

Bangalore, May 25: Lingayat strongman and former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa resigned the membership of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly following his election to the Lok Sabha from Shimoga.

Yeddyurappa was elected to the Assembly from the Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district in the elections held last year.

State Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa told reporters here that Yeddyurappa had submitted his resignation to the membership of the Assembly and resignation has been accepted.

Yeddyurppa also spoke to him over telephone about his resignation to the MLA, the Speaker said.

With Yeddyurappa’s resignation to the membership of the Assembly, by-elections would be held to the Shikaripura constituency.

Yeddyurappa, who had merged a major chunk of his KJP and joined the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, wanted the Shimoga lok sabha ticket be given to his son B Y Raghavendra, who had won in the 2009 lok sabha polls. The BJP, however, insisted on his contesting from Shimoga.

The former Chief Minister faced a stiff contest from Congress party’s Manjunath Bhandary and Geetha Shivarajkumar, daughter of former chief minister late S Bangarappa and daughter-in-law of Kannada thespian Dr Rajkumar, from the JD(S).

Yeddyurappa has demanded that his son Raghavendra be made the BJP candidate for the Shikaripur assembly seat, which is likely to be accepted.

Last week, the former Chief Minister of the BJP has written to Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi expressing his willingness to work towards strengthening the party in Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Small Scale Industries , Sugar and Muzrai Minister Prakash B Hukkeri, who has won on the Congress ticket from Chikkodi Lok Sabha constituency is also due to resign his assembly membership.

The minister, who was keen on getting the party ticket to the lok sabha to his son Prakash B Hukkeri, is insisting that the ticket for the Chikkodi assembly seat be given to his son.

BSY is surviving only because of his caste. He has shown he is poor administrator and has failed in everything.
People blame Mayawati , Mulayam Singh and HD Devegowda for caste politics, but forget to add Yeddy to the list.

    Dear Vinayak,
The Community which JR Lobo represent is only 10% in their assembly constituency which is not enough to win any election and I am sure if in future they involve in any corruption , people reject them in next election.
Where as in case of Yeddy its different , even though serious corruption charges are there (Out from Jail on Bail ), people them just because they represent a community and that's called caste politics.

Dynastic Politics from both, BJP as well as Congress.
BSY and Prakash B Hukkeri want assembly seat be given to their sons.
If obliged, then I think they will co-operate and work for the party, otherwise they will revolt or work against the party.

BJP/MODI in his election always accuse Congress /UPA govt as Mother son govt..Now BSY asking BJP to name his son for Shikaripura seat!!!Most of the Indian Political parties in India are in fact family political enterprises.

BSY's robust political career may come to an end because Center refused to avail his service!!And subsequent his letter to Modi also made Rajnath Singh red faced. It is now assumed that he will not get state chief post either.

Every politician in India thinks whole of India is his or hers when it comes to MLA or MP seats. And we are idiots who vote for them. MLA's should not be allowed to contest for MP seats as it's waste of money for by elections. These politicians have nothing to lose. It's we who have to pay more taxes for these scoundrels. There should be a law by election commission not allowing MLA's to contest for MP elections and vice versa.

    Dear Surendra Poojary/Mangalore,
U r 100% right. Why these Dynastic Politicians pertaining to all parties in India r interested to induct their parents, children & in-laws into politics. R they not capable of getting any other jobs. Why the election commission should waste tax payers money to hold by elections? This clearly indicate that our greedy politicians only interest is to fill their pocket, loot & ruin our country to the maximum extent
