Mangalore, July 6: Kannada Press Day was celebrated in the Xavier Auditorium of St Aloysius College here by Abhinava Magazine in association with the Department of Journalism.

Dr Na Damodar Shetty, head of Kannada department introduced the guests. Ravikumar of the Abhinava Magazine welcomed the gathering.

Chief guest, Sugata Srinivasa Raju of the Outlook Magazine spoke on Literary Magazines in Kannada as well as the effects of globalization on it.  He further spoke about Kannada magazines and the problems faced by them, the notion about writing for these magazines or tabloids. He emphasized the fact about writing styles and the changes due to the effect of globalization.

Senior research scholar and historian Prof Srinivas Havanoor, who presided over, also addressed the gathering. In his address he threw light on the historical aspect of" Mangalore Samachara" and role played by Mangalore in the development of Kannada journalism.

Principal Dr Eugene Lobo and Suman Mendonca of the Department of Journalism were present on the occasion.
