Mangalore, May 26: “Dr D K Chowta's works in Tulu literature are as good as the works of Chinua Achebe. Dr Chowta who had visited Nigeria and Ghana has written works in Tulu based on the African model. Unfortunately, Chowta's valuable works never crossed the border of Tulunadu,” said Dr B A Vivek Rai, a well-known litterateur, researcher, poet, and the former vice-chancellor of Hampi Kannada University and Karnataka State Open University.

He was speaking at an event held to mark the 75th anniversary of Dr D K Chowta organized by Rangachethana Sanskrithi Kendra in ‘Jana Sanskrithi Ustava’ at University College on Sunday May 25.

Dr Rai added "Dr Chowta has given equal importance to literature, agriculture, and  languages. There is opposition against Nidoddi and Nethravathi projects as these projects destroy the agricultural land. But no one protests against building flats on the agricultural lands.”

“As the newly selected MLA has asked for suggestions, I have given few suggestions like building public toilets and various other projects to improve Mangalore city, which have not yet been implemented. Theories should not be implemented forcefully. Thinkers have failed to understand this. Theories should understand the pulse of the common man. The psyche of common man will keep on changing,” he said.

Nanjunda Swamy Thottvadi welcomed. K A Dayananda, the director of Kannada and Cultural Department and Dr Sathyanarayan Mallipatna, the principal of University College, were present.
