Puttur, Jul 6: The whirlwinds of ill health took away the smiles from their families and pushed them into a never-ending battle with fate.

Here in this family the mother had stepped forward to give away her kidney to her son, who fights a battle between life and death. But this too seems a distant reality as the transplant and following treatment would cost nothing less that Rs 3 lac.

All was well with the family of Lokesh until a tragedy struck them. The breadwinner 24-year-old Lokesh had both his kidney failing to perform their task. 

The house, which was once filled with laughter, fun and joy, today has a graveyard silence, sympathizing with the bedridden young son.

Lokesh was working as an electrian and also repaired TV sets. Son of Sridhar Poojary and Prema residents of Shantigud village, Lokesh’s pathetic state could not been seen by the poor mother,  who stepped forward to give away her kidney to save her life.

But the high expenditure on transplant and post operation treatment, KMC hospital has instructed this family to deposit Rs 1.50 lac before starting the transplant. Further postoperative treatment would swell the bill amount. How could the poor family of five bear this burden?

Lokesh has only 6 months of life as specified by the doctors, within which, the kidney transplant should be done.

The family received Rs 20,000 from the prime ministers relief fund. But that was too meager to meet his requirement..

The mother cries each day as her hopes go bleak that her son would recover. But she has more questions than answers.
