Mangalore/Udupi, May 26: The historic moment of Narendra Damodardas Modi swearing in as the 15th Prime Minister of the largest democracy of the world on Monday May 26 was witnessed by the people of coastal districts with much enthusiasm and celebrations.
In both Mangalore and Udupi, large LCD screens were set up and the swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi was watched live by scores of people.

Needless to say, supporters, party workers and leaders of BJP district units in the twin districts broke out in celebrations even as Modi took oath. The scenes were such that the moment would be remembered for a long time to come.
Hundreds of people from across the city who descended at the venues erupted in joy and chants of 'Modi, Modi' reverberated in the air. The DK district unit of the BJP set up an LCD display outside its office at PVS while in Udupi, the screen was set up at Chittaranjan circle.
In addition, people across Mangalore watched the swearing-in ceremony on TV screens set up at different places. People were seen celebrating by sharing sweets, bursting crackers and cheering aloud in places like Pandeshwar, Urwa Store, Pumpwell, Car Street and others.
In a symbolic gesture that marked the meteoric rise of Narendra Modi from an ordinary tea vendor to the Prime Minister of India, makeshift tea stalls were set up near the BJP office in Mangalore. The stalls became an instant hit with people thronging to celebate Modi's success with a cup of tea.
The BJP party workers celebrated the historic moment by distributing sweets to commuters and pedestrians.
"We feel elated at the victory of the party with thumping majority. Our joy doubled when we saw our former chief minister of Karnataka, D V Sadananda Gowda being sworn in as a union minister," said district BJP president Pratap Simha Nayak.
"The DK unit of the party will emphasize on the development that it promised in the manifesto for the district. With Sadananda Gowda likely to get railways ministry, I feel confident that Mangalore will soon become a separate division," he added.
An ecstatic MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said the BJP under the leadership of Modi saw a successful campaign. "This spirit of Modi would certainly replicate in governance. I am optimistic that Modi would deliver an able administration in the days to come," he said.
